A quirky and interesting cafe, with homemade produce, at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend it. Had a home made soup which was delicious and warming in this weather. Scones to die for - had a lavender and blueberry which I have not had before but would certainly have again!

John Watts coffee shop is a quiet little gem in the centre of town, waiting for a train (only a five minute walk from the train station) or just getting out of the weather you can't beat an English breakfast and a cup of tea to get you started for the day and relax in. You can't miss it, just turn onto Bank Street and follow the heavenly scent of roasting coffee beans.

Found this absolute gem out of the blue having planned to go somewhere else. So glad I did as it was fabulous. Well established business in a very central location. The coffee and tea were exceptional, which I guess not surprising considering the heritage. Also had a terrific bacon roll and sausage roll too. Super friendly staff and a great place to relax, read a book and watch the world go by. Very inexpensive too. I shall be ordering their coffee and tea online. Will definitely revisit if ever in Carlisle again.

We've been part of the coffee club for some time and really wanted to visit the shops. We had the opportunity last weekend, and we are SO pleased we did. I visited with my daughter who is coffee shop manager herself - and hence usually very critical - but she couldn't fault the place. Service was very efficient and the food lovely. Coffee, obviously, was divine and the cake yummy. Good menu choice too. We also visited the roasting shop just a few minutes walk away and that's a great experience if you love coffee. We bought JW1865 coffee while there for home - absolutely LOVE this coffee. We'll be back!!

Great little coffee shop. Very historic. And the staff are so friendly and helpful. Serve a fantastic selection of teas and coffees to suit all tastes and some lovely cakes. The food is top notch. Always delicious and well presented. As well as getting a good portion for a very reasonable price. Always love to nip in when I can. Lovely to sit outside in the nice weather and watch the world go by with a good cup of tea
