Not the biggest cathedral but a beautiful one with some stunning windows. Very close to the excellent Tullie House museum and Carlisle Castle for a great day out.
A remarkably small, but interesting cathedral. Intimate. In a city that is also small and interesting. Unless you are from Cumbria I feel it is so easy just to flash past on the M6 or stop further south in the Lakes. Both the Cathedral & the city are well worth the effort to visit.
Truly a sight to behold, both inside and outside. We managed to get a few great pictures for Christmas cards and sold some at the Christmas market in my local church. The most popular card was one of the cathedral. So peaceful and beautiful all rolled into one. If your a sight seer like me, and your in cars like this is the number one place to go. Staff were kind and theres actually lots to do for the kids also!
Really interesting Cathedral, I'm not brilliant on architecture but as I remember parts of it are Norman and later add-ons. The gift shop is small but filled with nice goodies. The staff are very knowledgeable, one lady we spoke to gave really interesting details but was sensitive enough to leave us when she felt we had enough information. My friend and I joined the Eucharist which was pleasant and given the history of the building felt special to be worshipping in. The building is planning to add some kitchens, which looks like it will be an interesting place to get coffee
